Targeting your reader’s subconscious preferences is how to get people to stay on your blog.

This leaves you with the question, “What do my readers subconsciously prefer?”

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

–Albert Einstein

Get people to stay on your blog by executing these reading preferences:

  • Use of quotes
  • Use of bullet points and/or numbered lists
  • Section headlines
  • Short paragraphs
  • Narrow paragraphs
  • Use of pictures and/ or video
  • Leave white space

How to get people to stay on your blog by leaving white space…

Leaving white space step-by-step formula:

  1. Keep paragraphs between 1-3 sentences. (Prefer 1-2 sentences on my blog post and 3-4 sentences for articles)
  2. Paragraphs with multiple sentences keep sentences short.
  3. Put long sentences in their own paragraph by themselves.
  4. Keep paragraphs (posting column) narrow. I recommend 500-600 pixels. (This blog uses a 520 pixel posting column)
  5. Double space between paragraphs, pictures, and videos.

There you have it! By following these bog posting tips you now know how to get people to stay on your blog by using the less is more method.

I implement most, if not all, your listed ideas. You are on your way to a great blog. I use colors (in the writing) as well, and a ‘call-to-action’ at the end of each blog post.

This is a great blog post for those looking to improve their overall look and feel of their blog as well as the time their fans stay and visit.

Thank you!

Good information here Preston! White space is important because it gives the reader some resting areas and minimizes clutter and confusion. Thanks for the post!

Another great post Preston writing a blog post is totally different from writing an article and should be easy for visitors to scan. Visual effects are also good.

#1 – I like the new video intro

#2 – Good tips on the white space. No body likes to read “book pages” with massive paragraphs. Now of days people are in a hurry so things need to be easy to read where they can just pull the info they are looking for.

Thanks Preston

Great tips Preston, once I learned about these tips awhile back I started
to incorporate them immediately and realized how it was way more beneficial for my readers.

if I may add one that I feel is really crucial…

In a society that is moving toward “seeing things” rather than reading
them.

The use of pictures and videos on a blog are SUPER powerful.

Pictures help paint a picture of the message you’re trying to convey and videos without saying much is 10x more powerful.
