The first Petco Foundation Walk Run Wag 5K9 series, sponsored by Petco and Purina Pro Plan, kicked off yesterday (January 15th 2012) at the fair grounds here in Del Mar, CA.
Obesity in both humans and pets continues to be an issue in the U.S. and we are thrilled to introduce this new event as a great way to help people and pets stay healthy together… The 5K9 race series is designed to demonstrate just how fun and rewarding it can be to get and stay healthy and active, particularly with your four-legged best friend by your side!

What initially brought me down to the Walk Run Wag event was to see if our local rescue group, Pit Bull Rescue San Diego (PBRSD), needed a hand with anything.
What I did not expect to see is over a 1,000 dogs all roaming around with their families. It was an awesome sight to see for any dog lover.

Just a Few Things I Experienced at the Walk Run Wag Expo
- Tremendous generosity even with a “down economy.”
- Amazing story of how a dog in attendance survived being starved and dragged behind a car.
- Witnessing 3 actual service dogs from Afghanistan in action. Man, these dogs are amazing.
- A couple dozen pet product companies that were giving away samples.
- My Pit Bull Neka got an awesome StarMark chew ball for free. It was funny, I was trying to pay for it and the StarMark lady was like, “No just take it, I promise I won’t call security.” LOL
- The dedicated volunteers of Pit Bull Rescue San Diego representing the pitties without a home.
Walk Run Wag Golden Nugget to Take Home With You
Besides all the free schwagg that I brought home with me I took home something far more valuable.
The experience of seeing over a 1,000 pets along with well over a 1,000 people all coming together for a common goal was amazing to say the least.
Just like Paul Jolly’s, Executive Director of the Petco Foudation, passion of helping pets and their families to get healthier has transformed into an event that impacts 1,000 of lives, you too can turn your passions into something that fulfills you just the same.

Yes, I did have a ton of fun. Being around a huge group of people with a common goal towards positive change is always a great thing to be part of.
